The Toronto Sign Reimagination Unit's faux heritage plaque celebrates an ordinary metal post on Markham Street in Toronto that was transformed into a whimsical googly-eyed face during the early days of the pandemic. Created by a father and son as part of a playful “eye-bombing” project, it brought much-needed lightheartedness to neighborhood streets.

Though both the post and adjacent tree were removed in 2022, their legacy endures. A photograph of the googly-eyed post gained international attention, appearing in The Tinkering Workshop by American author Ryan Jenkins. This plaque immortalizes a small, joyful act of creativity that resonated far beyond its humble origins. The heritage plaque was installed (twice) in winter 2024, though some rascal keeps damaging the sign.
